I have only given you the nutrition values for the fruit sauce here because the calories etc will depend on what you serve the sauce with.Low fat vanilla ice cream, frozen yoghurt, anything like that would work well, and if you are not worried about the calories go for French vanilla full fat.I will confess, to eating it warm straight from a bowl. They true joy that is this dish comes in part from the combination of hot sauce and cold ice cream, and in part from the amazing smell that it leaves in your kitchen when you cook it.Pungent berries combined with vanilla, is there really anything better?
2 punnets of a combination of the berries of your choice, I used one of blackberries and one of raspberries, but that was because when I went to the market I they smelled amazing and I couldn’t go past them ¼ cup of sugar (or splenda if you prefer) 1 tablespoon water 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
Combine all the ingredients in a saucepan and boil until you have a thick chunky sauce. If you like you can mash a little with a potato masher, but you want it chunky, not smooth.Serve hot over warm ice cream.
Per serve (with sugar, obviously sweetner is less, but its the cottage, spoil yourself)
